Starfish Class Newsletter Starfish Class - ‘Stars in the making!’ 29 th February 2014 Our learning Year 1 In literacy we have been focusing on Traditional Tales. In maths we have been learning about odd and even numbers and place value of numbers to 30. Our new topic is “Farm to Fork” see attached topic web. Reception. We have introduced our new topic “The Gardening Gang”. We have listened to a story about Percy the Park keeper and how he makes a special machine to help him mow the lawn. We have been making our own machines using boxes and construction kits. We have been labelling machines and writing lists in literacy. In maths we have focused on our target work recognising our numbers. Wellies Please can all reception children make sure they have their wellies in school every Thursday, for as part of our theme small groups of children will be visiting the garden area Theatre Production We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit from the theatre group and their performance of “Little Red Riding hood” World Book Day Next week we will celebrating World Book Day. On Thursday there is a special dinner, please return the slip from the World Book Day letter if you would like your child to have a special meal. On Friday the children are invited to come dressed as a character from a traditional tale – prizes for the most amazing costumes! Parents evening If you were unable to attend parents evening please see Miss Harrison or Mrs Wiseman about making an appointment. Reception snack money Thank you to all those who have remembered snack money. It is now due Please place the £3:50 in a named envelope, thank you. Starfish Class ‘Stars in the making!’ Homework This week we have introduced 1 new sound ‘z’. The rest of the week has been spent matching the lower case letters to capital letters. We have continued to use the letter sounds learnt for these letter we will introduce the letter names later in the year when they are more secure. The only sound we have not covered is ‘q’ as it is slightly different and will be covered next week. Thank you for your help.
