Write a letter as a Native American pleading your case as to why your lands should be protected and the settlers should be kept away. Michaela Harford 5 th hour U.S History 10/5/11

Dear President, Thank you for reading our letter. We the Sioux tribe have lived here for many moons. I the chief, will be giving you some reasons to protect and kept the white man away from our land.
3
Reason 1: The first reason is that our tribe has lived on this land for many moons. And for your white men to come and say that the land is theirs its just not right or even fair. I come back from a strong bloodline of warriors. As does the other warriors in my tribe. You have no right to take this land. Maybe you think you do. But lets say if I came on your land that you have been living on for many moons, and I say that you have to move and go somewhere else, because this is my land? I don’t think that would go over to well.

Reason 2: I have been every patient with your white men. I have not declared war. Even though your men come and slaughter our people during a hunt for no reason. I don’t wish to declare war with you. I just want peace and the blood shed to stop. We need no more killing. So there trees will be drink blood instead of water. The soil will be red with blood of Sioux and white man. When it should be black. Please tell your men to stop killing. I need no more wars!
5
Reason 3: Your men have came and talked to us before and tells us that we don’t use the land properly. We have had the same way of life for many moons. We respect the land, and its spirits. We need not to turn over all of the soil. Just a bit. There is no need to this green money. We have never need something of the sort. We can trade food, clothes, and horses.
6
Reason 4: This is the last reason. As I have said before we have lived here almost forever. I don’t want war. We need some knowledge. But we will NOT give are land up to some greedy white men. You don’t know our ways and we don’t know yours. Please protect our land and we will help you learn the way of our land. We mean NO harm. Just peace. We are NOT savages we only kill for a reason. Please tell your people to live the Sioux only. Thank you again, Mr. President. Sincerely, Chief Storm.
