"You have to be unique, and different, and shine in your own way." -Lady Gaga http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hibyAJOSW8U Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack 'Cause when I leave for the night, I ain't coming back Ain't got a care in world, but got plenty of beer Ain't got no money in my pocket, but I'm already here And now, the dudes are lining up cause they hear we got swagger But we kick em to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger “When it comes down to it, I let them think what they want. If they care enough to bother with what I do, then I'm already better than them anyways.” –Marilyn Monroe “When it comes down to it, I let them think what they want. If they care enough to bother with what I do, then I'm already better than them anyways.” –Marilyn Monroe http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=TFgTP47R4Ic

Negative Influences Lindsey Lohan: I chose this picture because people look up to celebrities and they are bug influences on us. When we see them acting like that, it could negatively influence people in their feelings and behaviour. Miley Cyrus: This awards show was a very controversial event for Miley Cyrus. Many people began to look down on her for her behaviour. Being Hannah Montana she has plenty of children looking up to her, and by this activity she is potentially negatively affecting their behaviour as well. Ke$ha “Tik Tok” Lyrics: The Lyrics in Ke$ha’s hit song contain very mature themes but are being listened to and watched by people of all ages. When children hear these things being said, and see them being done in the video, they think it’s okay. It is influencing their behaviour and thoughts/feelings. Kelly Clarkson: This picture shows what Kelly Clarkson really looks like, verses how she is “fixed” on the front of a magazine. I think this is a really good picture to include for negative influences because girls are seeing these “fixed” photos and believing it to be real, and they expect themselves to look that way as well. This could lead to distorted body images and risking behaviour like eating disorders, etc.

Positive Influences Lady Gaga: Lady Gaga was on the Ellen Degeneres show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFgTP47R4Ic)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFgTP47R4Ic one day that I was watching, and Ellen began to ask her about her crazy outfits and hair and make-up, etc. And she began explaining how she wants to create a safe place for any of her fans to just express themselves and be able to be themselves, because when she was in high school, she was picked on because of how she expressed herself and she wants her fans to feel okay about being themselves. In this way, I think she is a positive influence on people for individuality and acceptance of others. “Wishes She Were Blonde” Ad: I think this is an influential ad from Dove. Dove has their entire program based on your inner beauty and that everyone is beautiful, etc. This picture shows how insecure young girls can be based on how the world shows them so many negative influences, etc. This ad is based on the old saying of “Blondes have more fun” and that guys like blondes, etc. I think the campaign that Dove has going on is a positive influence on people of all ages. Lady Standing in front of Dove Ad: This is another picture of a Dove Real Beauty Ad. Like the previous explanation, I think this is a positive image for girls and women, especially, to see. It teaches you its alright to embrace your own body and you’re beautiful in all your own ways.

Dove Ad, Model Makeover: This is from a very famous video put out by the Dove Real Beauty Campaign depicting how fake the advertising world is. This picture shows the difference between the lady who went into the photo shoot, and the image that was produced by the end of the process. It is a positive influence, I think, because it shows girls and women that what they really see isn’t what these models look like. It is a deceiving industry and to accept yourself for who you are. Dove Real Beauty Campaign Video (link): (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hibyAJOSW8U)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hibyAJOSW8U This is the famous video released by the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty. Like the picture in the previous explanation, it shows the difference between the way the model really looks and how she looks by the time the ad is out for the world to see. The two images are very different. This, I believe, is a positive influence because it is able to show you that it’s alright to be yourself because no one is ever perfect. Marilyn Monroe Quote: This is a very famous quote by Marilyn Monroe. She was a famous actress and a very influential icon in her time and still now. This quote is one of her most famous. She talks about being yourself and not bothering with what other people have to say or think about you. You are your own person. She says, “If they care enough to bother with what I do, then I’m already better than them anyways.” She doesn’t care what people think and isn’t afraid to be herself and do her own thing, and she wanted to inspire others to think the same way. I think this is a positive influence because of the acceptance of individuality and being yourself that this quote shows.
