2 Kompas Gramedia was founded by Jakob Oetama and PK Ojong in 1963
Kompas Gramedia was founded by Jakob Oetama and PK Ojong in The company that started with a monthly magazine, Intisari, has now become the largest media conglomerate in Indonesia. On June 1965 they launched the first issue of a national newspaper called Kompas. Kompas Gramedia grow into many business form, start with the first Gramedia bookstore in 1970, Gramedia printing network (1972), and Gramedia Pustaka Utama as the first publishing house (1973). Kompas Gramedia now becomes the largest media company in Indonesia with 11 lines of businesses:

4 PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama commenced full activity in 1974, although the first title (KARMILA) appeared in As a general publisher, our publications cover Children’s books (fiction and nonfiction), Juvenile/teenage books, Novels, Graphic novels, Books on Indonesian language and literature, English Language Teaching (ELT) books, Health, Self-help, Interior design, Dictionaries, Cookbooks, as well as history, sociology, philosophy and politics. Annually we publish circa 2,000 titles, 60% of which are translations. We have also sold copyrights abroad.

5 Publishing Trend in Indonesia
Fiction books: In a Blue Moon by Ilana Tan, Critical Eleven by Ika Natassa Young adult books by local authors Children’s books from Korea and Disney’s Popular nonfiction: Collection of quotes, and psychological themes; such as blood type personality books.

New channel to acquire new talent Collaboration with movie

7 Responsive to Trend Now digital life is part of everyday life. Social media has become a necessity, especially for young people. Social media platform such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram changed how people communicate and creating trend. They also widen perspectives on how to find source of books and potential customers.

8 #About Love Written by Tere Liye, a bestselling novelist in Indonesia. With almost 1 millions page like in Facebook, this book is a collection of his Facebook status. #AboutLove gained popularity among his fans and become a bestseller. #88 Love Life Written by Diana Rikasari, a popular fashion blogger, and considered as one of internet celebrity in Indonesia. This book appealing to young readers in Indonesia and has become a bestseller.

9 The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
The Magical Moment Along with increasing popularity of quotes book, we publish a collection of inspirational tweets from Paulo Coelho, published by Korean publisher, with illustration by Hwang Joong Hwan. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane At the beginning of 2015, popularity of K-Drama “My Love from Another Stars” has raised an awareness about “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane”. This trend prompted Gramedia to reprint this book, and increased the sales of this backlist title.

10 New Channel to Acquire New Talent
We created a new platform for readers and writers to post their stories online in Everybody can post their stories in this social platform. The editors looking for new potential story in this channel, to print it into mass-market books. Editors monitored stories published in this web, looking for favorite stories by readers, getting comments from readers to reshape the stories better in printed version.

12 Collaboration with Movie
Not only actively selling rights from books to movie, publisher and movie producer work together to publish novelization based on a movie. Film can maximize added value and boost sales of books.
