Homework Unless otherwise noted it is all of the Review and Preview problems for that day’s lesson. To receive full credit all problems must be attempted and corrected. Erasing is not allowed. If a mistake is made they are to cross out the false start and continue on with their new start.
6
Class Work We use co-operative learning in class. After each problem the student rotates their paper to the person on their left. One paper is chosen from their folder for grading and all receive that grade for the day’s work.
7
Analysis During the quarter we will have short tests over vocabulary, statistics, and reflections on new learning. These are done individually and graded separately.
8
Assessment There are two types of assessment in class-Formative and Summative.
9
Formative Assessments Formative assessments are like 5 minute quizzes. Each student is given three opportunities to take each quiz. When they receive a 100 % they are no longer required to test. These are entered in a category worth 0% in Skyward. A 5 is perfect mastery, 4 is exceeds state standards, 3 is meets state standards, 2 is below state standards and a 1 is lack of understanding. When finished a final grade is entered in the Assessment category for that concept.
10
Summative Assessments A summative assessment is a chapter test over many state standards. Each assessment is 65- 70% review and about 30-35% new material. Each succeeding test carries more weight in the grade than the previous one because of the review content. Each question is graded on the five point rubric scale listed before and all grades are posted in the communication category that is worth 0%. A final grade for the total test will be posted in the Assessment category and carries a weight of 70% of the student’s grade.

How Do I Get Extra Help? Tutoring is available On Tuesday and Thursday mornings with Mr. Burch from 7:15 until school starts and on Tuesdays after school with Mrs. Powell. Any other time is by appointment made at least 24 hours in advance. Mr. Burch has an open door policy during homeroom for those who need help and have their home room teacher’s permission to go see him for help.

Home Help Go to my web site and download the Parent’s Guide for your child’s class. This contains detailed explanations and examples of the day’s lesson listed by lesson number. Below the text are some more practice problems for them to work on for you. There is a score key in the guide so you can check their understanding of the work when they do this extra practice.

My Web Site My staff web site is a great ‘Go To’ place for information about homework, tests and handouts. In about a week it will be turned on and will list the homework for each day in class. You may also download the class expectations there starting next week. Please send the signature sheet back with your student as soon as possible after this weekend. If you do not have internet access a hard copy will be provided for your student.
