Mapping: The Nuts and Bolts
2
With special thanks to Kristin Rice for the restaurant analogy and slides.

Terminology Mapping enables an institution and its programs to develop visual representations of how courses and experiences support outcomes/objectives. Analysis Approach is a way to analyze courses (and experiences) and curriculum. Required on Maps means that every map process will include this Analysis Approach. Allow New Codes means that a program can add its unique codes to this Analysis Approach.
4
Mapping in WEAVEonline is similar to: 1.Opening a Restaurant 2.Deciding what to put on the Menu 3.Ordering a Meal 4.Receiving your Meal
5
1.Opening a Restaurant Creating Institutional Analysis Approaches Deciding to use Predefined Approaches Getting courses loaded What kind of food What kind of atmosphere, etc. You make some major decisions:
6
WEAVEonline Administrator 1.Decides whether to use Mapping at all. 2.Initiates the Mapping set-up by notifying WEAVEonline and sending a course list for uploading 3.Can also add/edit courses. 4.Makes decisions that affect the entire institution. 4. Determines if any Predefined Analysis Approaches will be included in Mapping. 5. Enters any additional institutional Analysis Approaches desired. 6. Retires and restores Analysis Approaches, if needed.

Admin Tool Details Analysis Approach –Adding a new Analysis Approach –Editing an existing Analysis Approach/Code –Retiring/Restoring an Analysis Approach Predefined Institutional Approaches –Previewing Predefined Approaches / Codes –Using a Predefined Approach

Map Owner or Entity Administrator 1.Reviews Analysis Approaches marked as Institutional Optional to decide on inclusion. 2.Adds Entity-Specific Analysis Approaches. 3.Selects courses from institution’s master course list to include on the Map. 4. Enters any desired Experiences to include on the Map. 5. Manage lists of outcomes/objectives and General Education outcomes/objectives. 6. Monitors Configure Map View to make sure that the list of choices is accurate.
10
3.Ordering a Meal Configure a Map View (What do you want on the Map?): Analysis Approaches Courses & Experiences Outcomes/Objectives General Education/Core Curriculum Place your order from the Menu: Pizza with peppers & onions Soda
11
Faculty and Staff 1.Determine which Map elements are relevant to the topics of the day. 2.Decide how many Map elements should be displayed at a time. 3.Take an active role in Map coding, if they have write access and have been asked to contribute. 4. Select appropriate map size. 5. If desired, export map to Excel. 6. Upload electronic files to the Mapping Documents area for reference or documentation purposes.
12
4.Receiving your Meal Order Up Add Condiments and Enjoy View Map Add Analysis Approach Codes Export to Excel Add documents, if desired

WEAVEonline Mapping ~ What Will Happen Next: 1.Completion of staff testing 2.Progression to confirmation testing by a panel of members – if you are interested, please tell us via the survey after this webinar (you will test for one day) 3.Announcement of Mapping availability 4.Release of Mapping to institutions that contact us and then submit a master course list file
