Why George Orwell? Eric Blair shed his old image as a English policeman and became George Orwell – who was anti authority and convention Saw his job as exposing Truth and calling for Action

Lived in Spain during the Spanish Civil War – fought in the war He was impressed by the idea of equal living – no class distinctions – wealth and poverty lived together Had to flee with his wife to France to avoid violence Showed the idea of socialism was possible
