Coyote and the Race Story
5
Discussion Points What was the lesson Coyote learned? If Coyote had not taken Grandfather Spirit’s advice, what consequences might he have had to face? What was the lesson Coyote learned?
6
Optimism: Grandfather Spirit told Coyote to go back and try again and to “Do it differently”.
7
Using Coyote and the Race as an example, review the three parts of a story Beginning : Setting, Introduction to characters Middle: Conflict creates the rising action (tension) End (Conflict is resolved-not necessarily a happy ending)
8
Choices have consequences The choices a character makes determine the outcome of a story. How would the story have been different if the coyote had chosen to leave Turtle and not go back to help?
9
Real world time… In life, our choices also determine the outcomes to our personal stories.
10
GROUP TIME Partner up Choose one scenario from the next slide Together write a happy ending and a sad ending You will share your endings with the class in about 5 minutes
11
Student Storytelling – Typical Challenges Dealing with a friend who is jealous and possessive. Dealing with a friend who is too bossy and wants to control everything and has to be first. Dealing with someone who frequently makes fun of you. Dealing with a friend who blows up over little things and does not handle their anger well. Dealing with someone who does not do their part on projects and expects you to do most or all of the work.
12
Talk it out Discuss with the class- Think of a conflict (the story of your week or day) you are currently in. How do you want this conflict to resolve? How can you make that happen?
