3. Biography He was born in Lubaczów (Poland) in 1968. He was considered one of the best walkers of the history. He won 4 gold medals at the Olympic Games (Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 (twice) and Athens 2004).

4. Sporty Degree Throughout his career won three more medals in the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, all gold, a silver medal at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics and two titles at the European Championships athletics and the Universiade.

5. World record On 8 August 2002 established a new world record in the 50 km (3:36:39), and August 27 of 2003 he did another record: 3:36:03. The record was valid until December 2006, when it was surpassed by the Australian walker Nathan Deakin (3:35:47).
