Made the Palace of Versailles outside of Paris First leader to live outside of Paris Waged in 3 major wars On his deathbed said "Je m'en vais, mais l'État demeurera toujours.« This means I depart but the State will always remain.

The first war was against Spain because his wife had inheritance to the throne. He waged many battles which got him more than 12 fortresses in Flanders. He revoked the Edict of Nantes which weakened his power. His last major struggle was The War of Spanish Succession which lasted from 1701 to 1714.
