6 Listening Strategies: Taking lecture notes
Listen for “ topic ” words, e.g. endangered, species, decrease. These words are usually stressed and the facts are often repeated, e.g. rare, few, extinct. List your main points using numbers or an asterisk (*). This makes your notes easier to read when you look at them later. 3) Don’t try to write down everything; select important information. 4) Use abbreviations and your own shorthand (see the example below).

7 Listening Listen to the lecture. Use the Strategies to write some notes. And then answer the following questions: 1. What issue does the lecture focus on? The serious issue of endangered species.

The panda, the Yangtze Dolphin, the tiger. 3. Is the number of pandas increasing now? Yes, it is, but it is not enough. 4. What should we human beings do to protect the beautiful animals? We need to stop illegal hunting and extend conservation programmes.

Here are some ways we can help all wildlife: (1) Support zoos, reserves, and organizations that help animals. Volunteer your money, time and ideas.
