2. Egg The butterfly egg sticks to a plant. The egg is small and may be round. A caterpillar grows in the egg. The egg will hatch in a few days.

3. Caterpillar A caterpillar comes out of its egg and starts to eat. First it eats its eggshell. Then it eats plants. It grows very fast for two weeks. When the caterpillar gets too big, it grows new skin.

4. Chrysalis A caterpillar sticks to a twig. Its skin falls off. It’s soft at first. Then it grows a hard shell. A lot of changes happen inside the shell. When the shell opens, a butterfly comes out.
