Inquiry and Technology and Engineering Experimental procedure, cause and effect, bias and error, translating data, tools and procedure, engineering design process, intended benefits and unintended consequences Biodiversity and Change Classification key to organisms, adaptations and predictions of populations, environmental conditions, earth’s biodiversity, relative age of fossils Chemical Reactions Common outcome of chemical changes, classify element or compounds based on their symbols or formulas, differentiate between a mixture and a compound, determine physical and chemical changes, identify the reactants and products of a chemical reaction, law of conservation of mass, basic properties of acids and bases Properties of Matter Recognize all matter consists of atoms, describe the chemical makeup of the atmosphere, determine density based on mass and volume, use the periodic table to determine the properties of an element Forces of Nature Electricity can be produced by a magnet and coil, principles of an electromagnet, Earth’s magnetic field, distinguish between mass and weight with appropriate measuring instruments and units, determine relationship among the mass and distance of objects and the amount of gravitational attraction, illustrate how gravity controls the motion of objects in the solar system
