3 Roger Project Objectives The student will show their knowledge and understanding of the rock cycle, the 3 types of rocks, how they are classified, identified and how they form and change.

By the end of today you should have Roger changing once. 8 Elements of a Short Story Characters - Who is going to be in your story? Friends, family, fictitious people Setting - Where are the different places this is going to take place? Will Roger be able to change at the location or does he need to move? Plot - What action is going to happen to Roger? How will he change into the different rock types?

9 Ideas Roger can be or do anything as long as the SCIENCE is correct and true. Look at the survey you took for ideas. Think of books you have enjoyed. Are there ideas you could use? Use dialogue! Pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, final copy

19 Check your Sedimentary Rock Get a paper plate and carefully peel away the cup trying not to break the rock. If it worked, put your name on the paper plate. Observe your rock. Why is this a sedimentary rock?

20 Getting Started with your rough draft Think First and Brainstorm Ideas! (check the packet) – Write your ideas in your notebook. – Roger can be or do anything as long as the SCIENCE is correct. – Think of books you have enjoyed. Are there ideas you could use? – Use dialogue! The beginning of your rough draft should include a description of the Roger, possibly other characters and the setting where the story begins. – Remember: What, Where, When, Who, Why, How At the end of class, trade papers with another student. Give feedback on what you thought and any editing advice.

Start writing your final copy on loose leaf paper in blue or black pen or pencil. Due Tuesday at the beginning of class. (or sooner if you won’t be here Tuesday)

27 Friday Dec 12, 2014 Hand in Missing Work Get out and Finish Your Rough Draft Today: Peer Editing - Revising - Rewriting –For those students whose papers I have checked Final Copy and Rough Draft Due Friday December 19 (end of class). Thursday for p6-7

28 DUE: Roger Rough Drafts (10 pts) Peer Editing (5pts) each Underline the sentence each time where Roger changes. Get a PEER EDITING form (5 pts) and exchange papers with another student. Read paper silently first. Don’t make any corrections. Read paper again and answer the questions. Highlight science, spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. Proper science is the priority. Give story back and share your thoughts about the paper. Authors will then make the necessary revisions/re-writes.

32 Thursday Dec 18, 2013 Finish Roger Final Copy. DUE TOMORROW!! Finish writing final copy on loose leaf paper in blue or black pen or pencil. Don’t forget to peer edit. Fill out a grading rubric sheet when finished. Staple grading sheet, typed copy (if you did one), written final copy and rough draft in that order. Students typing must print their own papers to hand in. Read Pages 122-135 in the text when done or do make up work.
