Psychologists Stanley Milgram- he was an American Social Psychologist.
He was born on August 15th, 1933 in New York City He died on December 20th, 1984 He also studied justifications for acts of genocide offered by those accused at the World War II, Nuremberg War Criminal trials.

Purpose The purpose of the experiment is to resolve conflict between obedience to authority and personal conscience. Obedience- following orders from a superior. His aim was to see how far someone would go to obey an instruction if it involved harming another person. Superiors

Process Volunteers were invited to meet Stanley
Used straws to choose student or teacher Fixed so Stanley was the only student, whereas the volunteers were the teachers. A list of words read off to Stanley Stanley would be asked to recite those words back Stanley was hooked up to an electric chair Volunteers were told to "shock" Stanley if he made a mistake If the teacher refused, he/she would be asked to continue 4 times

Results 65% of the participants fully obeyed the experiments commands completely. (2/3) He had 18 versions of this experiment.

Problems The volunteers were exposed to stressful situations.
There were signs of tension. Some of the volunteers didn’t fully understand the experiment. He never gave any of the participants an opportunity to withdraw from the experiment.
