Definition of Term Two most generally accepted principles of constructivism are (Grabe and Grabe, 2007, p 54): What a person knows is not passively received, but actively assembled by the learner In most circumstances, learning serves an adaptive function; the role of learning is to help the individual operate within his or her personal world

Practical Implications Students responsible for their own learning Learning influenced by context Learning personal knowledge, not abstract truths
