3
Arm There are 3 main bones in the arm. These are the Humerus, Radius and Ulna. There are 27 bones in the human hand. The humerus joins the shoulder to the lower upper arm. The radius is shorter than the ulna. The upper arm is joined to the clavicle and scapula.

5
Leg The Femur can withstand up to 4 tonne of pressure.
The femur is the longest bone in the body. The lower part of the leg has 2 bones these are called the Tibia and the Fibula. The tibia is the shin bone that connects the knee to the foot. The fibula helps to support our ankle.

The bones in the leg. calcaneus condyle of femur femur fibula
head of femur metatarsus (metatarsals) neck of femur patella phalanx (phalanges) talus tarsus (tarsals) tibia
7
Skull The skull protects our brain and forms our face.
There are 14 bones in the face. The skull is a thick strong bone. Human baby’s skulls are in 4 pieces. The mandible in the only moing part on the skull.
8
The bones in the skull. frontal bone mandible maxilla occiptal bone
parietal bone temporal bone zygomatic bone
9
Chest There are 12 sets of ribs.
Our ribs form a cage to protect the heart and lungs. The sternum is connected to the front of the rib cage and is made up of bone and cartilage. The ribs are connected to the spine. The rib cage expands and contracts when we breathe.
10
The bones in the chest. acromion atlas cervical vertebra clavicle
false rib floating rib scapula spine of scapula sternum thoracic vertebra vertibral column
11
Spine The human spine is as long as a giraffe’s.
The cartilage between the vertebra act as shock absorbers. The spine has 26 vertebrae. The atlas is the top part of the spine which is connected to our head. The atlas lets us nod our head and the axis lets us shake our head.
12
The bones in the spine The bones in the spine are called vertebrae and the entire spine is divided into 5 sections, from top to tail those sections are: cervical (7 vertebrae) thoracic (12 vertebrae) lumbar (6 vertebrae) sacrum (5 vertebrae) coccyx (3 vertebrae).
13
Joints There are 6 different kinds of joints in the human body. These are: Ellipsoidal joint; these are in knuckles and toes. Plane joint; these are in ankles and wrists. Hinge joint; these are in knees, ankles and elbows. Ball and socket joint; these are in hips and shoulders. Saddle joints; these are in you thumb.
14
Interesting facts The bones in the human body are 6 times stronger than steel. There are 206 bones in the body. The smallest bone is the stirrup bone. It is in the ear and the size of a grain of rice. Bones are not solid. They are filled with spongy bone so they are light. In the middle of the bone there is bone marrow. This is filled with fat and blood.
