Leadership in our school By St. Sebastian’s C. of E. Primary School Year 6

What is leadership? The action of leading a group of people or an organization, or the ability to do this. “I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along with people. – Mahatma Gandhi “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way” – John C Maxwell (author of books on Leadership)

School Governors School governors are a group of volunteers who include parents, staff and members of the local community. Their main role is to promote on-going improvements in standards throughout the school. They help the head teacher and staff plan the school’s long-term direction and evaluate progress. The school governors help set the school’s aims and values and are responsible for some staff appointments, including the head teacher! The governing body of our school consists of twelve school governors who help our head teacher make our school a special place for us to learn. The chair of the school governors is Mrs Schaanning.

Adult leaders in our school The leader of our school is Mrs. Baldwin who is our head teacher Miss Haydock is our class teacher, deputy head teacher and head of Numeracy Mrs Dyson is the teacher of years 3 and 4, and is the head of languages and Literacy. Mrs Metherigham is also a teacher of years 3 and 4, and is the head of RE. Mrs Moxham is the teacher of year 2 and is the head of PE. Mr Palmer is the teacher of year 1 and is the head of ICT. Mrs Griffin is the teacher of Foundation stage and a school governor.

KS2 Children Leaders in our School In our school everyone is a leader (of sorts) for example in KS2 we have children who are: School Council Water bottle monitors Table monitors Young ambassadors Carbon ambassadors and many more. We also have leaders outside of school including captains of the football team, netball team, badminton team etc.

Famous Leaders Some famous leaders: Queen Elizabeth II – Queen of UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and head of the Commonwealth David Cameron (Prime Minister of the UK and Leader of the Conservative Political Party) Barack Obama (President of the USA) Abraham Lincoln (Former president of USA) Nelson Mandela (Winner of Nobel peace prize and a former president of South Africa)
