Character traits, setting, problem, solution, cause and effect are all story elements that can help readers comprehend the story. Most fictional stories have these elements. Big Idea

Guiding Questions Who is the main character? What are the character’s traits? Where does the story take place?

Main Character The main character is who the story is mostly about. Different characters have different traits. Traits are the way a character looks, feels, and acts

Setting The setting is where or when the story takes place. For example: the time of day, day of the week, season, holiday, or month. The story can also take place in the past, present, or future. Where a story can take place can include: a city, state, the country, a planet, or anywhere on earth.

Final Thoughts… Think of your favorite book. On a separate sheet of paper, list the main character, the character’s traits, and the setting of the story.
