+ The Staff, Notes, and Pitches Music is written on a staff with: 5 Lines 4 Spaces Much like your HAND! Notes on the staff represent different pitches Lines and spaces are numbered from bottom to top So, the 5 th line is on the TOP!!

+ Treble and Bass Clef In Music, the notes are named after the first seven letters of the alphabet: A-G NO H!! : After G we go back to A!! Clefs- Help us to organize the staff to make notes easier to read and tell us where certain notes are located

+ Treble and Bass Clef The Treble Clef- is used for notes in the higher pitch ranges The Treble Clef is also called the G clef The five lines of the TREBLE CLEF are named as follows: E G B D F ( Every Good Boy Does Fine ) The 4 Spaces of the TREBLE CLEF are named as follows: F A C E

+ The Bass Clef is used for notes in the lower pitch ranges. The Bass Clef is also called the F clef The five lines of the Bass clef are named as follows: G B D F A ( Great Big Dogs Fight Animals ) The four spaces of the Bass clef are named as follows: A C E G ( All Cows Eat Grass) Alfred’s Exercises: Lesson 2 and 3

+ The Grand Staff and Ledger Lines When both Treble and Bass Staves are connected by a brace and a line they form the GRAND STAFF

+ Ledger Lines Ledger Lines are used to indicate notes when we run out of room on the staff. These can be used when a note is either too high or too low to be written on the staff.

+ Class Activity: Name the Note and Pass it On! First person names the note I write on the board That person then draws a note and next person comes up to identify Alternate between Clefs!! ( Ex. Treble then Bass then Treble etc…)
