Mosaic Unitarian Universalist Congregation Sunday December 6 2015 “Leaving the Old, Embracing the New” Reverend Mark Spivey Worship Leader Jessie Sanchez

Unitarian Universalism Draws From Many Sources: Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder; Words and deeds of prophetic women and men; Wisdom from the world's religions; Jewish and Christian teachings which call us to respond to God’s love by loving our neighbors as ourselves; Humanist teachings; Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions.

Unitarian Universalism Principles Being Upheld in this Service: The inherent worth and dignity of every person Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations; A free and responsible search for truth and meaning

This is a time for quiet reflection and spiritual centering …

O Come, O come, Emmanuel And with your captive children dwell. Give comfort to all exiles here, And to the aching heart bid cheer. Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come within As Love to dwell. O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL1/4

O Come, you Splendor very bright, As joy that never yields to might. O come, and turn all hearts to peace, That greed and war at last shall cease. Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come within As Truth to dwell. O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL2/4

Ritual of Joys and Sorrows

Leader: May our joys and concerns surrounded by the healing waters of our beloved community be acknowledged here today. Congregation: May we share with each other the meaning in our lives. 1/2

Leader: May all these joys and concerns be enfolded in the warmth of this community. Congregation: And may that warmth extend in sympathy and compassion to all who are hurting in our wider world. 2/2

Shalom, Chaverim, Shalom, Shalom! L’hitraot, Shalom, Shalom. SHALOM CHAVERIM1/1

LEAVING THE OLD, EMBRACING THE NEW Reverend Mark Spivey

The ceaseless flow of endless time No one can check or stay; We’ll view the past with no regret, Nor future with dismay. The present slips into the past, And dream-like melts away; The breaking of tomorrow’s dawn Begins a new today. THE CEASELESS FLOW OF ENDLESS TIME 1/2

The past and future ever meet In the eternal now: To make each day a thing complete Shall be our New Year vow. THE CEASELESS FLOW OF ENDLESS TIME 2/2

Perhaps love is like a resting place A shelter from the storm It exists to give you comfort It is there to keep you warm And in those times of trouble When you are most alone The memory of love will bring you home 1/4PERHAPS LOVE

Perhaps love is like a window Perhaps an open door It invites you to come closer It wants to show you more And even if you lose yourself And don't know what to do The memory of love will see you through 2/4PERHAPS LOVE

Oh, love to some is like a cloud To some as strong as steel For some a way of living For some a way to feel And some say love is holding on And some say letting go And some say love is everything And some say they don't know 3/4PERHAPS LOVE

Perhaps love is like the ocean Full of conflict, full of change Like a fire when it's cold outside Or thunder when it rains If I should live forever And all my dreams come true My memories of love will be of you 4/4PERHAPS LOVE

With faith in the creative powers of life, With hope for the future of life in this world, With love for all others who share this life with us, Let us go forward together in peace. Our meeting has ended; let our service begin. ~Lindsay Bates CHALICE EXTINGUISHING1/1
