The Rush-Bagot Agreement – The Rush-Bagot Agreement – limited naval power on the Great Lakes for both the United States and British Canada Adam-Onis treaty- Adam-Onis treaty- made Spain give Florida to us. In return, we gave up its claims to present-day Texas and we had to take responsibility for up to $5 million of U.S. citizens’ claims against Spain. The Convention of 1818- The Convention of 1818- gave United States fishing rights off parts of the Newfoundland and Labrador coasts and established the border between the United States and Canada. Also, both countries agreed to a joint occupation.

6 The Monroe Doctrine James Monroe became concerned that rival European powers might try to take control of Latin American Countries. Britain was also interested in restraining other European nations’ influence in the Americas. This caused Monroe and Adams to deliver a statement warning European powers not to interfere with the Americas, this is know as the Monroe Doctrine. Overall, this doctrine helped shape U.S. and Latin American connections for years to come.
