Do Now: Rights List as many rights guaranteed in our bill of rights as you can. If you do not know any, what rights do you think should be in there?

Amendments to the constitution Purpose: to list formal changes to the constitution 1 - 10 Amendments: Bill of Rights (1791) 11 - 27 Amendments 1798 - 1993

How do we Amend the Constitution? Amendment proposed in both houses of Congress by a 2/3 vote ¾ of the state legislatures ratify the amendment Power lies exclusively with Congress & the states.

Another way to amend… Approved not by state legislatures, but by special conventions in ¾ of the states. Only on the 21 st amendment was ratified this way….

Fun Facts… Over 11,000 amendments have been introduced to Congress 33 sent to states for ratification 27 ratified
