Olivia likes red roses. She spends a lot of time in her garden. Does she work in the garden every day? Yes, she does. Dana is a graphic designer. She works in an advertising agency every day from 8-4. She doesn’t go to work on Saturdays and Sundays. On Sundays she spends time with her two children. How do we describe these two women?

W HEN DO WE USE PRESENT SIMPLE?

1 - R EPEATED A CTIONS We use the Present Simple when we want to describe actions that are repeated: happening again and again. The actions can be a habit, a hobby, a daily event, a scheduled event or something that often happens. It can also be something a person often forgets or usually does not do. Examples: I play tennis every Sunday. She does not play tennis. The train leaves every morning at 8 AM. He always forgets his watch when he goes to work. Every twelve months, the Earth circles the Sun.

2 - F ACTS OR G ENERALIZATIONS We use the Present Simple when we want to describe facts and general truths. Examples: Cats like milk. Birds do not like milk. California is in America. They love to travel to the United Kingdom. Windows are made of glass.

TIME EXPRESSIONS ( ONE WORD ) Usually Sometimes Never Always Often Seldom Rarely Always comes before the verb תמיד יופיעו לפני הפועל במשפט Examples: The boy always wears shorts. Sharon never eats fruit. Children sometimes lie to their parents.

TIME EXPRESSIONS ( MORE THAT ONE WORD ) Every… Once a… Twice a… On… Always comes at the end or the beginning of the sentence. תמיד יופיעו בסוף או בתחילת המשפט Examples: The dog sleeps on the floor every night. Every weekend our family eats outside. I play tennis on Mondays.

SPELLING RULES he she it V1 + s /es / ies Examples: He loves her. She always watches TV at night. The baby often cries in the morning.

SPELLING RULES – HE / SHE / IT 1. Usually we add s to the verb. Mom bakes a cake every Friday. 2. When the verb ends with: ch,sh,ss,s,x,o,z – we add es to the verb. The girl brushes her hair twice a day. 3. When the verb ends with consonant + y - we drop the y and add ies. Dan cries a lot. But vowel + y – we add only s Every month my mom buys me a present. Find a picture of a man or a woman on-line. Print it and stick it in your notebook. Describe the picture in 4-5 sentences. Write what they do, where they work, what they like or don’t like, ask a question and answer. Use the models to help you. 10 HOMEWORK
