“Taking the pulse of the planet” Review: Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) Non proprietary digital message format, based on XML, that provides for Interoperability in all-hazard warning Compatible with current geocoding schema (e.g., NWR Specific Area Message Encoding and Emergency Alert System) Partnership for Public Warning –Warning systems in the United States today are “a patchwork of technologies and processes.” –Need to distribute warnings consistently over all available channels. “Taking the pulse of the planet” CAP v1.1 NWS Update Continued progress on CAP 1.1 web based feeds –Extensive partner coordination and input –Partners encouraged better parsing/detail in lieu of faster schedule –Experimental deployment expected this month –PNS draft reviewed by partners last week Robust parsing and breakout of: –VTEC/UGC –Description –Robust use of geo tags Atom/XML indexes –Use of index feeds in Atom format Continued progress on CAP 1.1 web based feeds –Extensive partner coordination and input –Partners encouraged better parsing/detail in lieu of faster schedule –Experimental deployment expected this month –PNS draft reviewed by partners last week Robust parsing and breakout of: –VTEC/UGC –Description –Robust use of geo tags Atom/XML indexes –Use of index feeds in Atom format
