WHY THIS PROGRAM WAS NEEDED Civic engagement begins at an early age We should empower kids to be community leaders early on

WHAT WE DID Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes. Civic Engagement Speaker Series Pilot Project Date/Time: Tuesday, December 9 th at 8am Speakers: ABLDP, CPS Energy, Rackspace, KGBTexas, City Council District 8 Audience: Seven 3rd Grade classrooms Topic: 3 Simultaneous 1-hr sessions re: Civic Engagement

LEARNING OBJECTIVES We will discuss the characteristics of a good citizen/leader. We will identify our own civic super powers. We will share how we can use our abilities in our community.

Students were enthusiastic Educators were pleased with the outcome We recommend that the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce develop a speaker’s bureau: Speakers could include: Chamber staff, Board Members, ABLDP alumni, elected officials, etc THE PROJECT’S FUTURE
