2 Background A separate FFT and RF module is used at each carrier and one common MAC entity & above layers are used for Multicarrier. Dependent on MS’s capabilities, a scalar bandwidth can be achieved in wireless network. Carriers classification –Primary carrier shall provide control information & traffics for MS. –Secondary carrier may provide a part of control information & traffics for MS.
3
3 Assumptions of DL control structure for Multicarrier Primary carrier shall have SCH, BCH and USCCH. Secondary carrier may share SCH and BCH with its primary carrier and has its own USCCH. –The allocation of SCH is fixed in the first sub-frame within a superframe. –The allocation of BCH is fixed. –The allocation of USCCH is variable
4
4 Proposal: Initial ranging sub-channel in Multicarrier Only primary carrier allocates the initial ranging sub-channel –Appears per super-frame –Indicated by BCH For MS’ entry –A MS which wants to camp on a BS shall perform network entry in primary carrier and then request the multi-carrier support
5
5 Proposal: Periodic ranging sub-channel in Multicarrier Every carrier has individual periodic ranging sub-channel –The allocation of periodic ranging sub-channel may be configurable Different patterns are pre-defined to make simple indication & save the IE resources When MS requests secondary carrier for its transmission –It performs periodic ranging to adjust the PHY offset / synchronization without network entry process.
6
6 Proposal: Handover ranging sub-channel in Multicarrier Shared with initial ranging sub-channel –The codes selected from HO ranging domain will be used in HO ranging to differentiate with initial ranging process. HO process in Multicarrier –Only initiating HO process when switch between two primary carriers
7
7 Proposal: Bandwidth request ranging sub- channel in Multicarrier To support fast response of MS request, bandwidth request channel may be allocated within every frame –Indicate by USCCH –Allocate in primary carrier only If BR ranging sub-channel is allocated in every carrier, there is a lot of resources & process (multi-contention) overhead The type of requests can be further divided into two cases (details refer to C802.16m-08/304r2)

8 Proposed Text [Insert the following text in Section 19 of IEEE 802.16m-08/003r1] 19. Support for Multicarrier 19. x. UL Control Structure Based on different applications, the Ranging sub-channels of Multicarrier will be separately allocated. Initial ranging sub-channel will only be allocated in primary carrier. It will be statically located in the first UL sub-frame within a superframe. Periodic ranging sub-channel will be allocated in both primary carrier and secondary carriers. The allocation of periodic ranging sub-channel in each carrier can be different and configurable based on the pre-defined patterns. Handover ranging sub-channel will co-locate with initial ranging sub-channel in Multicarrier. The codes selected from HO ranging domain will be used in HO ranging to differentiate with initial ranging process. Bandwidth Request ranging sub-channel will only be allocated in primary carrier. Its location is dynamical and indicated by unicast service control channel.
