2 Unlocking Learners’ Voices Session 6 Moving Forward Beyond the Classroom

3 Format of Today’s Session ✤ Part I: 1) Review concepts of past sessions from series; 2) New concepts ✤ Part II: 1) Evaluate and comment on real student samples from our teachers (last chance!) ✤ Part III: 1) Blogs revisited; 2) Your ideas for blogs ✤ Part IV: 1) Implications in classrooms > Moving forward with your student voices!

4 Series Review: What We Learned With a partner, brainstorm what you have learned from this entire series -- as a teacher and a participant. 3 minutes Then, write the TOP 3 things you think are essential to unlocking learners’ voices.

5 Quick Game Word Association Exchange of words that are associated together or related with each other. BKK Team, HH Team, CM Team Two Different Rounds Game Wrap Up

6 Round 1: Each team has to do the same word/phrase. The associations are written down. Each team should have between 10 and 15 words. Ex: “Class rules” Class rules > follow > strict > teacher > student > obedient > naughty > break > time > gone On paper, you may write... Each team has to explain their associations.

7 Round 2: One site starts, then the next site continues, and so on. This cycle will repeat 3 times until there are 9 associations. The associations are said aloud. Ex: BK (1st team) says “DLF Training” Teams then explain their associations. Then, HH (2nd team) says “Learning” Then, CM (3rd team) says “English language” The cycle returns to BK, then HH, then, CM. This cycle repeats one last time.

13 GAME WRAP-UP What was the purpose of this game? What new words & concepts can you associate with unlocking your students’ voices? 1 minute

14 More Student Voices Let’s hear from teachers who have submitted student work. sent via email share during session 2 minutes each

15 Feedback on Student Work Let’s provide some oral feedback. During the oral feedback, what rubric criteria should you include to assess the work? 2 minutes each

16 Reflection How do these demonstrate your students’ voices? What are more ways you can continue to strengthen your students’ voices? 1 minute

17 Building Blogs What can blogs do for your student voices? advantages benefits disadvantages, drawbacks Role of Blogs about 3 minutes
