8. Their First Encounter Their First Encounter The pilgrims first encounter with the Native Americans was in the month of November. The Native Americans launch an attack against the European explorers. The Europeans win the first battle, thus making their first encounter with the Native Americans full of solace.

9. Starving Time By January and February of the following year, many of the pilgrims died of diseases. However, the pilgrims remained unified during this difficult time. Bradford makes mention of seven men who he felt were exemplary examples of true “brethren.”
