Almanaque: o Cuzco has a population of 300,000 people. o City is located 3,400 meters above sea level. o The city is the former capital of the Inca Empire. o Cuzco actually means belly button. Los Mercados: o The people of Cuzco, Peru are called Cuzqueños. o Two main crops are potatoes and corn.

El Templo del Sol: o Means, “The Temple of the Sun” o Was the first temple of the Inca Empire. o It is the most sacred place of worship for Incas. La Plaza de Armas: o The most common meeting location for tourist groups, is in the Plaza where the Cathedral is located. o The “Plaza de Armas” literally means: Weapons Square

Inti Raymi: (Festival del Sol) o When residents gather to honor the Sun God. o It the Incas New Year celebration. o It’s celebrated on June 24. El Festival de Corpus Christi: o Celebrated all around the continent. o The saints are celebrated. o It takes place in June and last a whole week.

Machu Picchu: o Is the lost city of the Incas. o It is approximately 7,500 feet above the sea level. o Archaeologists found things like ruins of the temples, palaces, fortresses, and one royal tomb. o They also found the pyramid of the Sun God.

Diego Tito o Lived from 1611-1681 o He was born in Cuzco, Peru o Was a Peruvian painter o Painted “El retorno a Egipto. La ceramica cuzquena o The style used to make cuzco ceramics was the imperial Inca style of art. La Cereria o Popular art form involving the decoration of candles for celebrations.

Farming/ Animals/ Dishes o The farmers have a terracing style of farming. o Terracing is used in Peru because of the mountains and lack of suitable flat farmland. o Llamas are the most popular animal in Cuzco. o Ceviche is common dish in Cuzco. It is raw fish marinated in citrus juice. o Comida Criola is the name given to traditional Peruvian dishes.
