2. General Information Upper Austria is one of the nine states of Austria (third larges). Capital: Linz Area:11,980 km2 Inhabitants: 1.3 million Upper Austria borders on Germany and the Czech Republic, as well as on the other Austrian states of Lower Austria, Styria, and Salzburg

3. Administration Administrative divisions –Upper Austria is traditionally divided into four regions: Hausruckviertel, Innviertel, Mühlviertel, and Traunviertel. –Administratively, the state is divided into 15 districts, and three Statutarstädte.

Branches: steelmaking, chemicals, mechanical engineering, automotive products and general metalworking (60% of the of the Upper Austrian production value and employ) Agriculture and forestry represent an important basis for numerous processing companies (important pulp and paper sector) 48,5% of the Region is farmland, which directly or indirectly supports 312,000 inhabitants. Tourism represents an additional source of employment and foreign exchange.
