Youngsters spend many hours online In some countries youngsters spend as much as 27 hours per week online; More ways of accessing online content are becoming available; Increased Internet use comes with risks; Not all youngsters are affected equally; Limiting, monitoring and controlling access not a solution.

Accessing online content Mediums: Computer Tablets & Smartphones Services: Instant messaging: whatsup, viber, facebook messaging Social networking sites and apps: Facebook, Tumblr, Snapchat and Instagram

(-) Internet Addiction (‘screen abuse’) Excessive computer use which interferes with everyday normal life. Covers today all forms of technology abuse: Internet overuse, problematic computer use, pathological computer use – and even iDisorder [Wikipedia].

(-) Cyberbullying Action of harming or harassing via ICT in a repeated and deliberate manner [Wikipedia]. When Internet, cell phones or other devices are used to send/post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person [Wikipedia].

(-) Sexual Solicitation Requests to engage in sexual activities or sexual talk or to give personal sexual information that were unwanted or, whether wanted or not, made by an adult (18 years old or older).

(-) Obesity A condition where excess body fat negatively affects a child's health or well-being. Due to the rising prevalence of obesity in children and its many adverse health effects it is being recognized as a serious public health concern.

BUT…… Not so much preventive, but reactive; Outdated; Treat youngsters mostly equally; Unrealistic; Sometimes impose limitations; Not always based on building trust; Doubtful that they train youngsters to handle risk.

OK, but then what?? Open communication channel with youngsters; Technology opens up; Organised use of technology at home; Structured use of technology in schools.
