1. Grow Plants Follow care directions. Make daily observations record in data table. Do you want to photograph? (with your phones!)

2. Determine wet mass of 10 plants after 7 days Design and record in data table.

3. Determining Mass Carefully remove 10 plants from soil. Carefully wash soil from roots – GET ALL ROOTS Record observations of overall size and appearance of each plant. (Data Table) Gently blot each plant dry.

4. Mass each plant in grams. Remember to tare weighing boat. Place in drying oven for 48 hours @100 o C. Determine dry mass of each plant. Record in data table.

5. Statistically analyze the dry mass data. (mean, range, standard deviation, standard error) Record in data table.

6. Determine:  Percent biomass per plants  Energy (g biomass x 4.35 kcal)/10 plants  Net primary productivity per day per plant

7. Record in Data Table Seven-Day-Old Fast Plants AgeWet mass/10 plants Dry mass/10 plants Percent biomass Energy Net primary productivity per day per plant

8. Repeat all steps for the next 7 days Data table at day 14.

9. Graph NPP from days 7 & 14. Include measurements from both groups.

10. Answer all questions in step 5 & 6.
