You Can Add!
3
Two or more numbers that are added to find a sum
4
Remember: Commutative Property of Addition Changing the order of addends does not change their sum. Ex. A + B = B + A
5
Associative Property of Addition The grouping of addends does not affect their sum. Ex. (a + b) + c = a + (b + c)
6
a+ (b+c) = (a+b)+c
7
5 + (3+4) = (5+3) +4 5+ 7 = 8+4 12 = 12
8
a+(b+c)= (a+b)+c 2+ (1+5)= (2+1) +5 2+6=3+5 8=8
9
Use the following numbers to create your own addition problems using the associative property of addition. 2, 3, 4 5, 6, 2 8, 1, 3
10
Did you do the following? 2+ (3+4)= 92+3) +4 5+ (6+2) = (5+6)+2 8+ (1+3) = (8+1) +3
