2
Matter anything that has mass and volume
3
Mass – quantity of matter that a substance or object contains. More matter, more mass. Volume – amount of space taken up by a substance or object. Substance- Any material that can be observed Weight- A measurement of how much Earth's gravity pulls on an object
4
Solid The state of matter in which particles vibrate and do not appear to move. Ice is water in a solid state. a state of matter that has a fixed shape and volume
5
Liquid The state of matter in which particles slide freely over one another. Maintains volume, but takes the shape of the container.
6
Gas The state of matter in which particles do not have a fixed shape or volume

9
Physical Change A change in the structure of a substance. After the change, it keeps all of its properties.

11
Changes of State: Physical
12
Front: Chemical Change Back of card: The process converting one substance into another substance that will have new properties. Picture: Produce heat, light, bubbles or color changes
13
Dissolve The process of a solid substance breaking down while in a liquid substance
14
Reactants The substances that are used to make a chemical change
15
Product The substance that comes out of a chemical change.
16
Heat An energy form which can be transferred between objects. Temperature is not energy, but a measure of it. Heat is energy
