Welcome the Pack SSRG welcomes the publication of this pack Contains loads of useful information and resources for RG leads in Local authorities Also useful for researchers Places research governance in context of research regulation – research ethics and peer review Suggests appropriate responses to research undertaken in different contexts and of different scales Supports local authority staff (hopefully mainly SSRG members) to advocate for implementation locally

SSRG Established in 1972 after Seebohm’s encouragement to set up research and statistics sections/units ‘The personal social services are large-scale experiments in ways of helping those in need. It is both wasteful and irresponsible to set experiments in motion and omit to record and analyse what happens. It makes no sense in terms of administrative efficiency and, however little intended, it indicates a careless attitude towards human welfare.' Why SSRG supports Research Governance Similar aims - improving standards in health and social care research Research Governance ‘leads’ are in the roles that SSRG was set up for (although now with more diffuse responsibilities) Supporting and developing research governance promotes the aims of SSRG as a whole and support individual members
