Lecture Rooms, Labs and Seminar Room: Inspections  Lecture Rooms, Computer Labs and Seminar Rooms managed by the Office of the Registrar will be inspected prior to the start of each academic term (Fall, Winter and Spring and Summer)  Next Inspection: Winter 2016, December 17 & 18  Inspection performed:  Boards cleaned (our office will email work order to facilities for services provided by their dept such as cleaning)  Count chairs (chair count to = published capacity, in missing: locate missing chairs and return to appropriate room)  Desks, tables and chairs are lined up  Check for broken items; if a broken item is found, we will place a work order with facilities and follow it through to closure.  Re-stock: erasers, markers and chalk, microfiber clothes, etc.

Lecture Rooms, Labs and Seminar Rooms: Supplies  For lecture rooms and labs managed by the Office of the Registrar, we will order and supply the following:  White Board Erasers  Dry Markers (Black, Red, Green, Blue, or Multi-pack dry markers)  Chalk Board Erasers  Chalk  Microfiber clothes/water bottle spray for whiteboard walls  We provide each building manager with supplies on hand to meet the day-to-day needs.  Ordering Supplies  Provide supplies during walk thru prior to each quarter.  Re-orders: email registrar@scu.edu requesting supplies. We will make every effort to respond within one business day.registrar@scu.edu

Lecture Rooms and Labs: Special Requests/Disabilities  Special furniture requests:  Faculty - (such as a chair, stool, podium).  Send your email request to registrar@scu.edu.  Note: SCU does not maintain a storage room of excessive furniture. If a suitable item in not available, one may need to be ordered.  Students - requests for student with disabilities should be made with the Disabilities Resources Office. It is important to provide information as early as possible so we can provide for the needs of the student by the first day of classes.

Why some classes have to be moved during schedule creation?  Because we have a very limited number of classrooms. There may be a high number of courses at a certain day/time and not enough classrooms for everyone.  Each quarter the registrar sets a target number of classes per time slot. The target for Winter 2016 was 65. Once departments surpass this target, they are requested to move classes to different days and/or times.

Why some classes are not assigned the Classroom requested in the AYP  Many reasons…  High priority: disability; enrollment exceeding capacity; instructor’s back-to-back classes. Medium priority: board type (white board; black board) and size; technology needs; furniture needs. Low priority; proximity to instructor’s office, seniority.

Why is it important to know if an instructor will or will not have an exam?  Because we can always use a room for another class that will have an exam.  While UGRD has priority during the scheduling of classes at the beginning of each quarter, grad courses have priority during final exam scheduling. This means that graduate classes are allowed to schedule their final exams first.  Some UGRD courses might not be scheduled in the same room where they regularly meet because there might be a grad course taking a final there during final exams week.
