Karrens or lapies are areas of very rugged terrain, full of grooves and channels, generally with sharp edges. Lapies GO BACK The landforms created by karst modelling UNIT 11 Biology and Geology 4. Secondary Education
5
Dolines are funnel- shaped depressions which form in areas on the surface of the mass where water accumulates. Doline GO BACK The landforms created by karst modelling UNIT 11 Biology and Geology 4. Secondary Education
6
Poljes are large depressions formed by several sinkholes running together. Polje GO BACK The landforms created by karst modelling UNIT 11 Biology and Geology 4. Secondary Education
7
Torcas are enormous cavities with very vertical walls, which are formed when the inside of the mass is so hollowed-out that the surface (the roof of the cavities) collapses. Torca GO BACK The landforms created by karst modelling UNIT 11 Biology and Geology 4. Secondary Education
8
Ravines or canyons are deep channels with vertical walls. Ravines are shaped in a curve and canyons are straighter. Canyon GO BACK The landforms created by karst modelling UNIT 11 Biology and Geology 4. Secondary Education

The systems of cavities of a karst mass are composed of horizontal tunnels (galleries) and vertical shafts (potholes) or the large cavities that are formed when the systems of potholes and galleries widen and join together (caverns). Cavern GO BACK The landforms created by karst modelling UNIT 11 Biology and Geology 4. Secondary Education
