3 Religion According to the Textbook… Six Major Religions: Christianity Judaism Islam Buddhism Hinduism Confucianism Very monolithic descriptions Oversimplified descriptions Justification for the selection of ‘ their 6’ is problematic

4 Infusing More Religion… Add Daoism and Shinto Use China and Japan as examples to combat the monolithic /homogenous descriptions and demonstrate multiplicity Restructure the order so that we do not start with Christianity (begin with Hinduism and end with Christianity)

7 Urumqi & Uyghurs History of Urumqi and Uyghurs material Incorporate throughout each unit of the course with examples (ex: religion, family, identity, values, language) Function as a case study to spur discussions throughout the course
