Summary of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Service’s Expectations of Secondary Schools A Broad General Education until the end of S3 is essential; Implementation of the new SQA qualifications from session 2013-14; Pupils’ experiences in the Broad General Education, S1-3, should not predetermine young people’s options for qualifications in S4 and beyond. The Senior Phase, S4-6, will be combined no later than 2014-15.

Course Structure National 2/3notional 120hrs study Nat4/5, H, Adv Hnotional 160hrs study At National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher, each course will include a 40-hour added value element. For National 4, the Course will include an added value Unit. This will require the learner to demonstrate depth of understanding and/or application of skills. This will not be graded. For National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher, the course will include an external assessment. This will sample breadth, depth and application from across the Course. The external assessment will be graded (A – D).
