Computer-assisted language learning(CALL) A strategy that utilizes a variety of technology- based tools to support both ESL and foreign language learners in and out of class. English as a second language(ESL) Designates a student who is learning English after achieving proficiency in another native language. Foreign Language(FL) A target language, or language of study, spoken mainly in other countries.

Distributed language learning(DLL) An online publishing strategy where students share their writings and learn together and work toward common purposes, with possibilities for negotiating form and meaning of language as they progress. English language learner Individuals who are learning English as their majority language for everyday uses, employment, and educational purposes. Web-based language learning(WBLL) A strategy in which teacher identifies pertinent web sites and resources for students to use to aid in their learning of a new language and related cultural lessons.
