Fourteenth Amendment The Fourteenth Amendment set two of three basic sources of U.S. citizenship. Birth on American soil. Second Naturalization Third being born o a parent who is a U.S citizen

Citizenship by Birth Another method of is automatic citizenship is birth to an American parent or parents.

Citizenship by Naturalization All immigrants who wish to become American citizens must go through naturalization. Citizens by naturalization cannot run for or become a president or vice president.

Qualifications for Citizenship 1. Applicants must have entered the United States illeally. 2. Must a good moral character 3. Must declare their support of the principles of American government. 4. Must prove they are able to read, and write in English.

Steps to Gaining Citizenship Must be 18 Lived in the U.S. legally for 30 months. The key steps to in Naturalization process, is a preliminary hearing in which the applicant is asked about his/or her moral character.

Collective Naturalization Is a process by which members of a whole group of people, living in the same geographic area, become citizens by an act of congress.

Losing Citizens Only ythe federal government can grant and take away citizenship. By leaving the country or commiting a crime.
