Laboratory Equipment Find each piece of equipment in your notebook and write the function to the right of each

Microscope For viewing objects too small to be seen with the naked eye

Safety Goggles Protective eyewear, prevents unwanted particles from getting in the eye

Scalpel Small surgical knife used to open a specimen

Depression Microscope slide Used to view living specimens under the microscope in their natural habitat

Erlenmeyer Flask Used to mix and store liquids with a lesser chance of spilling

Microscope slide and cover slip Slide- Small, flat rectangular piece of glass on which specimens can be mounted for microscope study Cover slip- thin, square glass that covers the specimen on the slide

Probe Used for moving specific structures around inside the body of a dissected specimen

Graduated cylinders Measures liquids, marked in metrics (liters)

Dissecting Scissors Used for cutting into a specimen during dissection

pipette Used to transport/ transfer a measured amount of liquid

Magnifying glass A lens that makes objects appear larger

Test tube brushes Used to clean test tubes

Triple beam balance Determine the mass of small objects in metrics (grams)

Dissection Pan Used to hold specimens for dissection

Test tube and test tube rack Test tube- used to prepare, store and mix liquids Rack- stores test tubes in an upright position

Dissecting Pins Used to hold down the specimen to be dissected

Funnel Used to safely transfer liquid from one container to another

Beakers Many shapes and sizes with a lip to make pouring easy Used to mix liquids

Thermometer Instrument used to measure temperature

Petri dish A shallow, round dish used to grow bacteria or other microorganisms Used to hold specimens

forceps Used for grasping/holding organs, tissues during dissection Used to hold materials too small to be held by the hand

Eyedropper Used for transferring liquid for making wet mount slides
