Senior College Application Process Presented by: Your Friendly Husky Counseling Office @Husky_Counselor
2
Check Senior Checklist in Family Connections to make sure you are staying on top of everything. Visit Mr. Newkirk in the Career Center and your School Counselor to get any questions answered. Your counselor will be calling you in to discuss your post-secondary plan. @Husky_Counselor
3
Ideally, students should begin their senior year with 3 -5 colleges in mind. Consider what you are looking for in a college: Location Setting Size Majors Sports/extracurricular activities Social Opportunities Unique Opportunities Internships/Co-ops Tuition/Fees

@Husky_Counselor THS has purchased an electronic college application tool that allows high schools to prepare and send college application documentation electronically to more than 3,000 electronic destinations. THS sends electronic transcript requests/Letter of Recommendation/Secondary School Reports Transcript requests are $3.00 each. You must fill out a PINK transcript request for all schools. Fee waivers may be requested for students with Free/Reduced Lunch and transcript requests for Military Academies. See Mrs. Vocke for details.
10
@Husky_Counselor Allow up to 3 weeks for processing. A Secondary School Report (SSR) is sent with transcripts. Mid-year transcripts are sent with 1st semester grades to all colleges. No need to submit another transcript request – we automatically send them. At the end of the school year – a final transcript is sent to the college that you select on your Senior Survey. Turn in PINK Transcript Request form for each college transcript request (even if you submit request in Family Connection). If payment is due, bring the form, along with payment in cash or check (payable to THS), to Mrs. Vocke in the Counseling Office. We cannot submit a transcript unless a transcript form request is completed.

Student navigates to the Colleges tab in Family Connection. Student clicks Colleges I'm Applying To. Student scrolls to the Teacher Recommendation section and clicks Add/Cancel Requests. Student selects a Teacher from the drop-down menu and adds a note to the teacher, if desired. (The note section can be used by the student to specify that the teacher write for a specific college.) Student repeats for all teacher requests he or she wants to make in this session. Student clicks Update Requests.
24
Have a conversation with your counselor. Students must indicate that a counselor LOR on PINK form is needed. The Self-Assessment and Parent Response Form must be completed. @Husky_Counselor

James Madison University requires that students designate the name and e-mail addresses of the recommender when applying. JMU will then provide instructions to the applicant’s recommender. Virginia Commonwealth University requires that the LOR be mailed to the university. Counselor’s cannot submit the recommendation letters through Naviance/Family Connection. @Husky_Counselor

Presentation is posted on the THS School Counseling website under Counseling Presentations. Instructional Video is posted on the Senior Planning page for matching the Common APP & Transcript request procedure. Counselors have gone into English classrooms to review process with students.
