3. Act I - Background Prior to scene ii, Flavius and Marullus have chastised commoners for their celebration of Caesar’s return to Rome as a victor.

4. Act I, scene ii Scene ii begins in the streets of Rome on the Feast of the Lupercal which traditionally means there will be men in loincloths racing one another and whipping one another. A trumpet sounds. CAESAR enters, followed by ANTONY, dressed formally for a foot race, then CALPHURNIA, PORTIA, DECIUS, CICERO, BRUTUS, CASSIUS, and CASCA. A great crowd follows, among them a SOOTHSAYER
