So What is “Traditional” Publishing? Traditional publishing is the process of: 1.Completing a manuscript 2.Writing a query letter (see query letter presentation) 3.Submitting query letter and/or manuscript to PUBLISHING HOUSE 4.Signing a contract with publishing house

What about “Self” Publishing? Self publishing is: 1.Completing a manuscript 2.Formatting and illustrating your own book (or hiring someone) 3.Using a third-party company (Createspace, Smashwords, Kobo) to publish your book

What’s the Difference? Traditional Publishing No extra work needed! Publishing House controls all marketing and printing of your book Controls publishing rights to your book You get a percentage of book profits Self-publishing Must self-promote, illustrate, and format book ALL rights are yours You receive ALL profits Third-party publishers (Createspace, Kobo, Smashwords) will print your books for you (FREE)
