1 Activities for Chapter 1

2 Carousel Seminar– Unit 1  4 Topics to be taught 1. Why We Study Children (pg 21) 2. Benefits from Play (pg 25) 3. Family Structures (pg 73) 4. Trends Affecting Families (pg 77)  Each group will teach 1 topic

3 Activity  Determine which family structure fits your family now. Then choose one of the other family structures and Write a one-page story about how your life would be different if you lived in the other family structure.  Start off: “The family structure I live in now is ___ but if I were in a ___ family my life would have been like this…..

4 Activity  Read the “How Important Is Parenting?” sheet  Then write at least 4 paragraphs (must have at least 5 sentences per paragraph) explaining your thoughts on what you read.  Refer to the “taking action” at the bottom of the paper to help with your thinking on what you are writing.

5 Activity  Work in groups of 2 to develop questions for a self- assessment test for potential parents.  Include at least 25 questions and a scoring system.

6 Public Service Announcement  Write a public service announcement (flyer, billboard, radio…) that informs couples about the responsibilities of having children.
