2 Why is it bad to be fat? For most people, FAT is the enemy. Why? Because it clogs up the blood vessels, placing an extra load on the heart, and this increases your chances of diseases such as bowel and breast cancer.

3 People eat more energy (joules) than they use. This extra energy is stored as fat. As people continue to eat more than they use. People become increasingly fat as they don’t exercise. What makes us fat?

4 Why do we get fat? Years ago when people weren’t guaranteed a meal every day. This meant the body stored fat incase we didn’t eat when we next got hungry. So now when we eat the fat is stored a bit like a camel. Nowadays most people get fat because of fast food, and poor diet. Most people don’t exercise as much as they used too.

5 What's the risks? Diabetes Heart disease and strokes Cancer Depression Infertility Breathlessness Osteoarthritis Joint problems Surgical procedures Gallstones

6 Why is being fat GOOD? It makes part of our brains. It protects joints Provides reserves for when your sick Because people are fat, new exercises are invented.

7 How much is too much? What is accepted is that 19% of the mans body should be fat and woman should have 23%. Experts say that it is not hazardous until 35% for men and 40% for women.

8 Facts of FAT. For every 10 Kilograms of extra body fat, there are some 29 Kilometres of extra blood vessels. There are two types of fat: Saturated and Unsaturated.
