As a Bangladeshi American, would you and your children like to enjoy your civil rights and unite for a significant influence in the US legislative, judicial and executive processes? If the answer is yes, then it is time to get actively involved. We Bangladeshi Americans, and our families need to become more aware of the importance of being active in the U.S. political process. If we sit around and let others decide our future, it will not be good for our children growing up in this country In 2004, the Bangladeshi American Public Affairs Committee (BAPAC) was created in Michigan to ensure that concerns and needs of our community are heard. With your continuing support we have achieved significant success. Our focus now is community development. BAPAC needs your help. The larger our active membership, the stronger our voice will be. The key word is PARTICIPATION. We need to do this for our children and for the future of our Bangladeshi American Community. Frequently Asked Questions 1. What are the objectives of BAPAC? a) Support active participation of Bangladeshi Americans in the US political process. b) Promote the interests of Bangladeshi Americans to run for office at local, state and federal levels. c) Encourage young Bangladeshi Americans to participate in the economic development of their family and the community the live in. 2. Why do we need BAPAC? a) After the passage of campaign finance reform laws in 2002, the PACs have become more effective in gaining access to the decision makers. b) Like All other communities, we must develop our united platform for the future of our children. 3. How do we ensure that our voice is heard? a) Develop this grassroots organization and seek support from a broad swathe of the community. b) We have to converted the trends of our demographics in to a political and economic power, consolidate contributions to leverage our support. c) By building an organized network, we are in a strong position to make our needs count. 4. How do we do effective network? a) Maintain contact with political candidates who support our community and issues that are dear to us, meet with them, discuss candidates’ platforms, introduce them to our community. b) Direct support to candidates, and follow-up with them once they are elected through a series of activities to ensure that our issues remain on top of their agenda. 5. What do you get from BAPAC: a) Anytime you need help with civil rights, immigration or citizenship issues, BAPAC can help you. b) If you need community development or entrepreneurship training and support, BAPAC is working for you. 6.
