2. Equations An EQUATION is a statement formed by placing an equal “=“ sign between two expressions. An equations has a left and a right side. EX: 4x + 1 = 9

3. Solving Equations Finding all the solutions of an equation is called SOLVING the equations. Some are easy enough to be solved using Mental Math.

4. Solutions When the variable in an equation is replaced by a number, the resulting statement is either true or false. If the statement is true, the number is a SOLUTION of the equation. EX: 4x + 1 = 9 “2” is the solution to this problem.
